Hidden Gem Kyoto Garden Offers a Slice of Japan in the Heart of London
Discover tranquility at Kyoto Garden at Holland Park
What is Kyoto Garden?
Kyoto Garden is a serene oasis nestled in the heart of Kensington's Holland Park, perfect for anyone looking to unwind or snap some Instagram-worthy photos (just like I did!). This hidden gem was introduced to the park in 1991 to commemorate the upcoming 1992 Japan Festival in London. A gift from the city of Kyoto, the garden symbolizes the enduring friendship between Japan and Great Britain.
Where is Kyoto Garden?
Tucked away in Kensington's Holland Park, on the western edge of Central London, you’ll find the charming Kyoto Garden. Spotting this serene retreat is a breeze, thanks to its welcoming gate that marks the entrance. Whether you’re wandering through the park or on a mission to find a little slice of Japan in London, Kyoto Garden is easy to discover!
Is Kyoto Garden free?
Guess what? Kyoto Garden is totally free to visit! When I went, even in the early afternoon, it was buzzing with tourists. Clearly, this little slice of Japanese paradise is no secret!
How long does it take to walk around Kyoto Garden?
It took me about 30 minutes to stroll through Kyoto Garden, mainly because my friend and I had chosen it as the perfect spot for our photoshoot. We did take our time, and the crowd of tourists slowed us down a bit too. But honestly, most people say you can explore this charming little garden in just 5 to 10 minutes since it’s pretty compact. However, there are benches to sit, relax and enjoy the scenery, especially the gorgeous waterfall that was one of the backdrops of our shoot.
Why should I visit Kyoto Garden?
Beyond being a gorgeous backdrop for photos, Kyoto Garden is a living metaphor that beautifully bridges Eastern and Western cultures. Nature lovers and architecture enthusiasts will be in heaven as they wander through its pathways, where traditional Japanese elements like stone lanterns and bamboo fences blend seamlessly with the classic British landscape. It’s a perfect mash-up of zen vibes and London charm!
When should I visit Kyoto Garden?
I suggest stopping by Kyoto Garden outside of peak hours for a more peaceful experience. I went on a weekend afternoon, and it was packed with tourists! Weekdays might be less crowded, but even on weekends, the views are still worth it. I visited during the summer, and the cherry blossoms were stunning, but fall is also a great time to see the garden’s vibrant maple leaves. Honestly, Kyoto Garden is beautiful year-round, though I can’t say for sure what it's like in the winter—definitely something to check out!
